Over the past two years, our understanding of community has shifted as every aspect of our lives has changed from the familiar, to the digital unknown, to something completely different, a mix of the before-times and the future. This year’s competition again saw record participation from across the country, and we couldn’t be more thrilled with the submitted artworks. The theme of the 2022 Young Artist Exhibition Juried Art Competition is My Community. Winners must be available to perform their concerto live with the Ocala Symphony Orchestra at the subscription concert Youthful Renderings on Saturday, Maat 7:30 PM and Sunday, Maat 3:00 PM. Finalists from each division will receive a cash award of 200. There are cash prizes for first and second places 7 students will be featured with a guest pianist at the Honors Concert. The Finals will be performed in front of a live audience. As of our 2021-2022 season, we have had the pleasure of sharing the concert stage with 208 Young Artist soloists. The top 7 competitiors will perform in the Young Artist Competition Honors Recital. The Fort Dodge Area Symphony has sponsored a Young Artists Competition since 1966, where young artists from across Iowa compete for music scholarships and the opportunity to perform as featured soloist with our Orchestra. The 2022 YAC event is for wind instruments, 2023 is for string instruments, and 2024 is for piano. Callaway Auditorium is located on the campus of LaGrange College, in LaGrange, Georgia. This theme for the competition was “Live as well as possible, as long as possible” highlighting an essential aspect of palliative care – allowing people with life-limiting conditions to continue to do the things they enjoy most and be around the people they love for as long as possible. The Young Artist Competition is a solo competition for freshmen and sophomore students. For young musical artists, this yearly competition organized by the LaGrange Symphony Orchestra, is traditionally held in early February at CALLAWAY AUDITORIUM.
